Global Health Delivery Summer Intensive

OVERVIEW

The GHD Summer Intensive (GHDI) (formerly the Global Health Effectiveness (GHE) Program) is a non-degree program offered during the first summer session at Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH).

Detailed information about the 2013 session, important dates, deadlines, and photos can be found by clicking on the Education tab across the navigation bar above and scrolling to Global Health Delivery Summer Intensive.

GHDI is intended for mid-career global health professionals who seek training in global health delivery concepts and skills. Participants take three courses: Epidemiologic Methods for Global Health (EPI505), a case-based Introduction to Global Health Care Delivery (GHP532), and Value-Based Management in Global Health Care Delivery (GHP555). These three courses are also part of a new, separate Master of Medical Sciences in Global Health Care Delivery (MMSc-GHD) degree-program offered through Harvard Medical School.

During the GHD Summer Intensive, students also utilize a platform of expert-led communities, Global Health Delivery Online (GHDonline), to connect and collaborate with other health care implementers working to improve the delivery of health care.

The 2012 GHD Summer Intensive (formerly GHE) cohort, pictured here on graduation day, included 43 participants representing 12 different countries.

Goals and Purpose

Despite significant new global health resources, delivering effective interventions to patients who need them remains one of the greatest hurdles facing medicine and public health. To bridge the gap between knowledge and practice in global health, the Global Health Delivery (GHD) Project at Harvard aims to systematize the study of health care delivery and stimulate collaboration among educators, researchers, stakeholders, and implementers. The GHD Summer Intensive is one of GHD’s efforts to expand the educational opportunities in global health delivery, and to convene a new cadre of health professionals trained in the major concepts and skills in delivering value-based health care within their own contexts.
